TDEE

Updated 2026-07-01By Chris RichardsAll terms

Definition

TDEE estimates how many calories you burn in a full day — rest, work, steps, and training included.

Definition

Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) combines basal metabolism with activity and digestion. Eating near TDEE tends to maintain weight over time.

Why it matters for tracking

Your calorie target is usually TDEE adjusted up or down. Without a TDEE baseline, deficits and surpluses are guesswork.

General nutrition information, not medical advice. Calorie and macro targets are estimates — talk to a doctor or a registered dietitian before changing your diet, especially if you are pregnant, managing a health condition, or have a history of disordered eating.
